Gluten Free Special and New Find at Woolworths

I was at the supermarket today and I found a couple of Gluten Free products and one big special that you may not know about.

I am an Everyday Rewards member for Woolworths and every now and then they send emails for special specials they have for those members. Usually its products I don’t use or need but this week I was very surprised.

Buy one Country Life gluten free bread and get one for free! I know! My gluten free friends will know that this bread is $5.70 odd for a tiny loaf but its’ one of the only breads you can buy in the supermarket and it is never on special. So when I saw this email I couldn’t quite believe my eyes.

You do have to be an Everyday Rewards member to get the discount and the store I went to didn’t have any indication on the shelf about the special – the discount comes off after your card gets swiped at the register. It is easy to be a member and its free. I just picked up a form from the store and signed up online but I think you can do it in store too? Not sure. Also the special ends this Sunday.

I also discovered a new gluten free product there today. Lollies.

Oh yes! I am a super senstive coeliac so I cannot eat anything that has glucose syrup from wheat in it. Yes even though the Coeliac Society say that it is technicially ‘gluten free’. Well all I know is that if I eat anything with wheat in it – regardless of whether it is from glucose syrup or not – I get sick. So it is a no go for me.

So these new range of gluten free lollies is a big find for me. They are the Select brand. $2 for a 200gm bag. And they are delicious. I am a fan of the party mix. And I have had no reactions.  Great find, especially since Coles took the only lollies I could eat off their shelves (why Coles, why?)

I cannot find a picture for you.. and the pack I bought has long gone in the bin but they are green and found in the lollies section. There are different varieties like party mix and snakes.

I would love to know if you have found any new gluten free products recently?

PS I am not affiliated with Woolies in any way. I am an average mummy saving money for her family so when I spot specials like these I like to share them.

Here’s a site for gluten free lollies. These are one of Sue Shepherd’s brands. I have fructose malabsorption and coeliac disease so these are great – just a little bit too chewy! I plan to write a review on all of their products on my hub page in the next week but here is a link that may get you started: http://missglutenfree.com/?tag=lollies

Is Jelly’gnite the brand they removed from Coles?

Hi Kelly – thanks for the link. I do know of Sue’s lollies, have had them also. They are a tad expensive plus you either have to get them online or at a speciality shop. As a mum I don’t have time to run around as much so I love it when the supermarkets have a gluten free range in their stores; as I am there anyway. Yes Jellygnite is the brand gone from my Coles.

I found out about a bread mix called “The real bread mix” and have only been able to get it from coles, though they do have a site as well and other products you can have home delivered.

I am still playing with the mix but the best thing is you can either cook it as a loaf or buns or pizza base or naan bread etc etc… I am currently trying to make hanburger kind of buns but I keep ending up with dinner roll sized ones… LOL

Thought You might be interested and good luck … I am only intollerant and it is a major pain… take my hat off to anyone that is truely celiac, the few i have known won’t allow it in the house at all so the rest of the family end up GF as well.

Thanks so much for that info about the sweets. I’ve been in England for 10 weeks and Coles seem to have taken them off their shelves in my absence, much to my horror. I have 2 children with gluten intollerance so the lollies are a great treat every now and then. My littlest one can’t even have maize or maize products. Anyone else have a similar problem? I’m in the process of having to pay a fortune to see specialists and it’s really tough as a single mum on benefits when the normal health care system don’t do anything to help you out.

Didn’t realise they send you emails with the everyday rewards. I’ve got a card so must get it registered. The low gi loafs of Country Life is the only bread my 2 year old can eat cause there’s no dairy, gluten or maize in it. Will go and register my card now. Thanks

Hi …I’m always surprised about how the big guys have a product on the shelf one week and not the next. However after dealing with alot of the companies for my shop (opening next year) I have discovered that the small GF companies have difficulity keeping up the supply demand for the big supermarkets. Also if the line doesn’t sell quickly…its deleted.

I ran up to Woolworths looking for GF Jelly beans that where advertised and I have only been able to find them twice!!
