Gluten Free and Nut Free Easter Chocolate Review and Giveaway!

Just in case you didn’t know, we have another major holiday headed our way. For me, this renders annoyance. Every celebration revolves around food and when you cannot eat normal food, the celebration loses a little of its shine.

So I am gluten free. There is alot I cannot eat. But there is more I can eat, thankfully. (its easier than people think) But there are people much worse than me, they cannot eat dairy or nuts or soy or sugar and the list just goes on.

For me, chocolate is a tricky one. I cannot eat just any chocolate. Yes some of them have gluten in them. Seriously! Don’t worry too much, I can eat some. I have to check out the ingredients. It’s the same for Easter Eggs, I just cannot eat any type.

But hold the phone people! There are gluten free Easter Eggs! And my dairy free and nut free friends, there are Easter Eggs available for you too. Yay!

The fantastic people at Porter Novelli contacted me and asked me to try some yummy gluten free chocolates that Coles are selling for Easter.

Easy done. When the package arrived, I think my son was more excited than I was. Even more so when I said he could help me taste test. Check out what we received:

  • Heritage Nut Free Easter Bunny – 160g
  • Heritage Nut Free Chocolate Eggs – 150g
  • Sweet William Rice Crackle Bunny – dairy free and nut free – 75g – $4
  • Sweet William individually wrapped Easter Bunnies – dairy free and nut free – out of 160g bag – RRP $6

My 6 year old loves everything, he thought the rice crackle bunny was yummy but he loved the Heritage Chocolate Eggs the best.

As do I. Maybe as they still have dairy in them, I am not sure but the Heritage chocolates were very yummy. The Heritage Easter Bunny has that gold specialness about it and the taste doesn’t let it down. Very very delicious.

The Sweet William rice crackle bunny and little easter bunny chocolates were good too. It is fantastic to have a choice for those that need the gluten, dairy and nut free goodies. Easter bunny are able to come to them. What I think is even better is that Coles sell them. A supermarket is accessible to most people so at least you don’t have to try and find a specialty shop that sells them. Yay for Coles for stocking them.

My only gripe? The prices. Allergy friendly foods are generally more expensive (don’t get me started on that one!) This plus the fact it’s Easter and seasonal food is generally dearer.

So you want some? How about winning the above selection for yourself? Well…ok then! Prize consists all pictured in photo directly above. One Heritage Easter Bunny, one Heritage bag of little eggs, one Sweet William Rice Crackle Bunny and 4 little Sweet William little bunny chocolates.

I can’t eat chocolate any more. The sugar sets off my IBS even if it’s dairy free and gluten free, and articially sweetened ones just taste ick, and ALSO at times set off my tummy *sigh*

but if I won this I have several coeliac and nut allergic people in my life who’d love them

I love easter. That’s because I get to have Red Tulip chocolate, this only happens for two months of the year (maybe I should store some away?). So for the months of march and april I get to breakfast on choc cross buns (who wants those icky fruit bits anyway), and dinner dessert of an elegant rabbit – I have some calories to burn ;)
I have to hide my habit from my children, as they can’t have as much dairy as mummy does poor kidlets.

  5. Kirralea Walkerden says:

I have recently been diagnosed with coeliacs but also cannot have dairy or eggs so Easter for me was going to be a non event until I read this!!! I would love to sample how it tastes and maybe, just maybe I might be able to enjoy and Easter egg or two this Easter with my family.!!!!!

  6. Emma says:

My dad has Coeliac Disease, so I know how hard it is to shop and eat out for someone who can’t eat Gluten products!

  7. A former chocoholic suffering under a gluten-free regime *sigh*. I’m usually better off with darker chocolate but if I can eat it, I will ;)

  8. Tat says:

I love European chocolate. My favourite would probably be Merci from Germany.

  9. Jenny says:

I’m technically not supposed to eat ANY chocolate, as I am allergic too it. But occassionally I am tempted. Picnic Bars and Time Outs are my weakness.

  10. chris arthur says:

My fav chocolate has always been Red Tulip, its not easter without receiving and eating red tulip easter eggs.

  11. Kate C says:

Oh I would love to win this! I really love Red Tulip or any of the Darrell Lea ones, dark chocolate seems to be ok with my dairy problems. I cannot remember what normal chocolate tastes like :(

I have been dairy-free for 12 years, gluten & nut-free in the last 6 months… needless to say, adjusting has been an adventure.

I eat Sweet William dairy- free now & then. It’s a yummy treat, and God knows my eating is so restricted these days. I’m allergic to yeast too, so no hot cross buns for me. So at least with Sweet William, I feel like I can celebrate Easter!

  13. Trish says:

I love Cadbury Chocolate of any kind. I have some gluten free friends who would love this.

This is great. My son usually participates in the egg hunt but has to give all his eggs away and ends up with a “gluten free snack’. Fantastic!

  16. leeanne ford says:

fabulous … love chocolate and with easter loomey its magical.

My daughter was just diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. We thought we’d be having a “dry” Easter! So glad to see we won’t be.

  18. kerrie says:

Can’t say I’m fussy when ever chocolate comes my way I’ll eat any, my children are the same they must have inherited that from me. But my favourite chocolate is always the ones with something inside as I love surprises!

  19. Jane Gardam says:

I have a problem with salicylates so am supposed to only eat milky bar white chocolate…which really isn’t a true chocolate, but in an ideal world where I could eat anything I truly love any type of chocolate, milk, dark or anything that mentions the word chocolate in it….STOP… Can we pause for a moment whilst I wipe the drool away.

  20. Bettina Greive says:

My favourite is a European chocolate called “Hachez”! Absolute chocolate heaven for your taste buds, not so sweet and best of all: same recipe for over 100 years and has always been gluten free!

  21. Linda Hynson says:

I must admit i adore real chocolate, but my sis is gluten free and would love this:-)

  22. Kristina says:

    I ♥ chocolate

  23. Lightening says:

My favourite chocolate is ….. chocolate! Anything chocolate really! :-)

I’m not coeliac but do have to be wheat free so tend to gravitate toward gluten free foods as I know they’ll be okay. The hardest thing I think I’ll find this Easter (my first off wheat) is not eating hot cross buns. :( I’ve found a few companies online that have gluten free hot cross buns but so far I’ve been very disappointed with most gluten free baked goods so I’m not sure if it’s worth paying the money for them.

Chocolate, chocolate chocolate – divine name, divine taste. There isn’t a heartbreak, anxiety, bad day that chocolate cannot fix. It is a wonder food (drug). It is a guilty pleasure that I cannot resist. Thank goodness there are gluten free options available. I don’t have to worry about my digestive reactions – I just have to manage the guilt of eating too much.

    • Susan Phillips says:

I have coeliacs disease and 3 of my 4 children also, it is getting easier to find gluten free products but the expense of these items means that they can only be occassional treats. I do a lot of baking myself but would love to be able to buy a sandwich with a healthy filling from the food halls etc. Chocolate is my one true vice and all my kids know this and look for my stash-congrats to Coles and Heritage for thinking of us!!!

  26. Susan Robbie says:

Since suffering IBS brought on by my last pregnancy Im having to reasses all my food choices. This is very new for me so Im still struggling with the change. I would love to try this chocolate and knowing that you dont have to shop around for it would suit me greatly this Easter. Happy Holidays to all. xoxox

  27. michele says:

my family loves dark and carob chocolates. its the only kind hubby can have so now that is the only we have and love em to bits

  28. Elizabeth says:

I love Lindt chocolates but I’m not the coeliac, my son is! So we badly need some of these (couldn’t find any at our local Coles sadly) to swap for the inedible ones his friends give him at school…

  29. Lyndall Crisp says:

Thanks for putting the FEAST into EASTER for me again. It is hard to find good traditional Easter recipes that are gluteen free. This year is shaping up to be a great Easter.

  30. Sarah Morrison says:

I love those Guylian seashell chocolates yum my absolute fave!

  31. Shell says:

I’ll never marry a prince, but I love my ‘sweet William’!

  32. Kath says:

This is fantastic news – at last! It’s always terrible telling children they cannot have easter eggs when they ‘hunt’ for them each year! Cannot wait to get some. THANK YOU!!

  33. Jennifer F says:

I love chocolate – milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate mmmm any chocolate! The only chocolate I don’t really eat is fruit and nut but if it was offered I probably would eat it :)

  34. dani beckett says:

Oh Im a fan of any chocolate….

But easter always causes a few problems.. My son is a type 1 diabetic so finding him sugar free or low sugar chocolate is hard especially with the prices being more expensive then the usual chocolate :)

    Take care and enjoy EASTER!!

  35. Jacoba Evans says:

As a chocoholic I love Easter, but my nephew only eats gluten free and my niece has a nut allergy. Would be great to give them appropriate chocolate instead of buying them something else.

  36. Kym says:

    Oh yum!
I used to love the Quality Streets, but I can’t find them anymore sooo now it is just Cadbury’s but I also like Lindt too oh and Nestle, oh and Belgium chocolate, oh and the Purple Swiss one what’s the name… Okay! I love them all!

  37. Sonja Holness says:

I have a friend who has Coeliac’s, I know it’s been a bit of a struggle for her adjusting to her new gluten free life style. Given her these choccies would just make her day! I’ll definitely let her know about this blog too ;)

  38. delaney says:

My stepmum is a newly diagnosed coealic sufferer. She helps me out with my son so much so would like to give her a special treat to say thankyou at Easter.

  39. Abby says:

Yummy, all chocolate is my favourite – Easter is my favourite time of the year!

  40. Allison Joy Olsen says:

Im a chocoholic from way back, any type it doesnt matter, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I snack on it all day. My sisters kids are all Gluten Free, so Its very limiting to what I can buy them. I tend to stick to the plain purple cadbury blocks and bunnies for easter, would love to give them something different, I know they would appreciate it. As for me, I can then eat the purple blocks Ive already bought them.

  41. Judi says:

I have a food intolerance to chocolate but still like to indulge sometimes and my absolute favourite is dark chocolate.

  42. Kim Brekelmans says:

My chocolate addiction is dedicated Lindt Milk Chocolate Balls. They are my naughty little indulgence

  43. Jo says:

We found ‘Sweet William’ when looking for nut-free chocolate for Master 7 a couple of years ago. It has become our family favourite and most importantly we know it is safe.

  44. Amy says:

I’m allergic to soy and coeliac so these wouldn’t suit me, as they all contain soy (esp. Sweet William). Soy seems to be a ‘forgotten’ allergen when it comes to chocolate. Cadbury’s in the UK are the only brand that makes reasonably-priced chocolates that don’t contain soy lecithin and I’m still waiting for my order of their mini-eggs. Seems unsupportive of local foods, but if I can’t get it locally I have to get it elsewhere (sigh).
Though my favourite (albeit expensive) chocolate would remain Amedei’s Toscano Brown milk chocolate. All of their products are made in a factory where no gluten-containing cereals or soy derivatives are used.

I’d certainly find someone who could have these though, from what I know they’re apparently delicious from the sounds of it! Being at University, I know of many who can’t afford Easter treats so the outlook remains somewhat grim. But thanks for posting!

  45. Amyas says:

Having recently had a close friend diagnosed with coeliac disease my radar is up on gluten free products. As she’s a chocolate lover I’ll have to pass on your blog to her. Thank you–personally, i can’t go past Lindt chocolate–so creamy.

  46. Tracy says:

My youngest daughter is fructose free, so shopping for her is very difficult. No fruit or fructose derived from fruit, no wheat or wheat by products (including glucose), no onion, honey or coconut.
Anything that lets her feel like she’s a *normal* kid is fantastic. It’s amazing how things like these Easter treats can make the world of difference to a 9 year old.
My favourite chocolates (and definitely on the naughty list) is the Guierlain Seashells.

  47. deb says:

what a great gift for my grandkids to enjoy

  48. Michelle says:

I tend to leave Easter shopping until the last minute or risk scoffing the lot and then remembering why I can’t have regular chocolate. You’d think I’d remember beforehand, but honestly, addicts don’t work like that!
So I’m hoping you all haven’t raided the allergy bunnies on Thursday and left me bereft.

Cadbury are in league with evil ‘glass and a half’ cows, fyi. The ones with guns.

  49. Marie says:

I have a friend at work who is pretty much allergic to everything! I would love to give him this for Easter, yum! <3

  50. Sharyn says:

So glad there are gluten free options!! My buddy at work would love this, similar to Marie, allergic to so much and often in pain. Me I love anything chocolate..

  51. Linda says:

I become such a child every Easter when the cadbury cream eggs hit the shops. OUT goes the diet and in go the eggs!

  52. Jennifer says:

Well, that’s really interesting to find out – Was completely unaware there was Gluten Free and Nut Free Easter Chocolate – Will look out for it in the Supermarket – I just adore chocolate with COCONUT in it!

  53. Jocelyn says:

Good quality chocolate is something truely to be savoured, I’m sure we’re allowed this treat every one and a while!

  54. Letona says:

The taste of chocolate is a gift from heaven especially when tummy upsets don’t follow. Thanks for the information – a treat without side-effects, perfection
