This weeks Listmania link up is tell us about your previous jobs. Although I don’t think my past is terribly interesting but I cannot wait to hear about everyone else’s.
Ah my first casual job… which led to my first full time job. I rose in the ranks of Pizza Hut – pizza maker and server to the management team. I didn’t do too badly I thought but it really was a lot of responsibility for a 19 year old…
I worked then for a few different hotels in their Food and Beverage Departments (which basically means as a waitress) while I studied. That led me to Daydream Island (in the Whitsunday’s) where I worked and lived. So much fun.
After Daydream Island I came back to Melbourne and worked for a few years at Centra Hotel, which is now something else completely but at the time it was a fancy 4 star hotel, I also rose through the ranks there but left when they wouldn’t develop me further – my then boss cried when I resigned!
I then moved to a desk job! I worked for the public service in Human Resources for a few years. Then I went to my current and most important job of all. A mum.
The photos are all mine, they are things I had stuck in a scrapbook of sorts – I have loved looking back at them!

Jobs:
- Checkout chick at Coles (during years 9-10 at school)
- Drycleaners assistant (years 11-12)
- High school tutor, debating adjudicator, babysitter, bookshop clerk (during uni)
- Fulltime scholarship Masters candidate
- Editor at small educational publisher
- Publications officer at two different govt departments
- Editor at a 24/7 online news service
- Policy Adviser in govt
- Now – Professional / technical writer, Mum, and household logistics queen
Wow Kathy such interesting jobs! Love the household logistics queen title
Too many to list, but my very first job was as a ‘domestic’ in a convent. THAT was an eye opener.
Oh that would have been Mary!
Snap on pizza hut!! I did the same, dish washer to Shift supervisor over 6 years! Great training grounds!
It was a great training ground for sure! Although it took me a while to eat pizza again after leaving.
I can only imagine how awesoem the experience was at daydream island – very cool!
It was so awesome, great times and great memories.
I love that you have saved all these pieces of memorabilia from your old jobs. I wish I had done the same. Daydream Island sounds like a wonderful place to have lived and worked.
I knew it would come in handy at some point! Who knew it would be for a blog post
Daydream island must have been fun! As a former waitress I found there is a lot of responsibility but not the paycheck to compensate! But it’s a great way to meet interesting people.
Waitressing is hard work, being the messenger between guest and chef is not easy. Being on Daydream was wonderful, waitressing was fun as most guests were in a good mood being on holiday.
awww lovely
cannot wait until I can add mum to my resume
Thanks Rach, it is the best ‘job’ for sure.
I clicked on your blog in Deb’s linkup because of your title – “Gluten Free” (I am too) so imagine my surprise when you say your first job was at Pizza Hut! Sometimes it takes us ‘sensitive types’ a while to work out what our problem is, doesn’t it? Anyway, it was fun to read your CV
I wish I’d kept mementoes from all of my random jobs too – such a good idea in retrospect!
I love that you have kept your keep sakes. Wish I did, unfortunately I throw everything out. xxx Rae
